The David Mather Foundation is working to support young people in Salta, Argentina to lift themselves out of cycles of poverty, through education and training. The Foundation is very young and is still putting many aspects of its work into place. We hope that you will support the Foundation and be part of a growing success in memory of a much loved person, David Mather.
The Foundation works with bright young people who have the academic potential to achieve success in higher education, but who do not have the financial means to continue with their studies. In Salta many young people work for up for 40 hours a week whilst they are still studying so it is no surprise that the drop-out rates are high as young people are forced to earn money to support their families in the short term, rather than investing in their education for the long term.

The David Mather Foundation supports young people in a variety of ways which are tailored to the individuals, but include the following: pairing with a ‘buddy’ mentor from the local university, taster visits to university, additional tuition in weaker subject areas, vocational training for the young people to learn a more effective way to earn money whilst continuing to study, self-esteem and critical thinking workshops, as well as financial support to help with the cost of transport, books and other materials.
