The Study Centre

The Foundation finally has a permanent study centre for the students to use, where they come each morning before school. The centre consists of two classrooms, a computer suite with five networked computers, a kitchen and a craft room. Breakfast is provided for the students and they have a timetable of English, Maths and Personal Development sessions to prepare them for their university courses. They also have the freedom to use the space and the facilities for their own private study. In this way, the centre acts as a place where the students can make use of the internet or simply have somewhere to work in peace and quiet.

We have been getting the clear message from them that a quiet place to study was the number one on their list of priorities. Many of them have to share their sleeping area with lots of brothers and sisters, sometimes parents, and often the kitchen and dining area too. This means that there is little chance of them being able to knuckle down at a table and concentrate without being disturbed.

There is space for a computer area (only 2 of 12 have a computer at home), space for the handicraft workshops, for large class activities and for smaller group sessions; as well as a kitchen and an outdoor area.  We know this place is going to make a massive difference to them and they are so excited about having this second home.
