Donations
Donate here and make a difference you can see. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a student who empathises with the difficulties of gaining an education, or a small business looking to give somthing back, every single penny you donate improves our students’ chances of success.
In such a small charity everything is used, nothing wasted or spent without careful consideration, and we will always report back to tell you where your money goes.
Using our Virgin Money Giving site (click below) is one of the quickest ways to make your donation. However, the Foundation does lose a % of the donation to cover their admin fee, so if you’d like to avoid this then please email us.
The difference your donation will make – some examples:
The first cohort of young people joined the Foundation’s programme in January 2010 and so have not yet been working with us for a full year. The costs described below are based on spend so far as well as budgeted spend for the rest of the year, to give donors a guide as to the difference their donations will make. As each new cohort is recruited costs will increase incrementally rather than double as there will be overlap and economies of scale. On average it will cost in the region of £600 to support each young person each year.
1. Student Mentoring
Each young person on the Foundation’s programme is paired with a mentor from the local university. They meet frequently to discuss their experiences of university, offer help with their studies, as well as to offer more general support.
Enabling one young person to have a university mentor = £5 per month
2. Learning Programmes
The young people are offered additional tuition in weaker subject areas. They are also offered workshops on areas including critical thinking, self esteem and study techniques. Qualified tutors are employed by the Foundation to provide these sessions.
Providing one young person with additional learning support = £15.00 per month
3. The Student Co-ordinator in Salta;
Raul Casanova, the Student Co-ordinator, liaises with the schools, the provincial government, the additional tutors, the mentors and most importantly the students and their families. He is in charge of the study base and of organising transport to and from the base back to schools and the university. This is a critical role which holds all of the activity in Salta together.
Student Co-ordinator salary = £400 per month.
